Some of our members recently had the opportunity to participate in a powerful and eye-opening workshop on Everyday Racism led by diversity trainer Nicole Amoussou. In this interactive session, we explored the roots and realities of everyday discrimination, learned how to use respectful and accurate language when addressing BIPoC individuals, and discussed the role we each play in creating more inclusive academic spaces.
One of the key takeaways was understanding how seemingly small actions or words can reflect and reinforce structural inequalities—and how awareness is the first step toward change. Nicole also offered concrete strategies for becoming an effective ally and fostering a respectful, supportive environment in both research and everyday interactions.
We are grateful for the insights and tools this workshop provided and are committed to continuing this important work.
Thank you also to our partners at HKI and Microverse for co-organization!
